Ngorongoro Crater
Visiting the Ngorongoro Crater with us: After an early breakfast, we will drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, as it is the best time to observe the animals. On this day, we will enjoy a safari around the crater and stop for a picnic lunch by a small lake inside the park. This lake is home to many hippos and migratory birds, so you are sure to enjoy the visit! Thanks to the animal “oasis” created in the crater, there is a high possibility of seeing each member of the Big Five. This group includes some of Africa’s most powerful animals: the fierce lion, the large elephant, the stealthy leopard, the charging rhinoceros, and the mighty water buffalo. The Ngorongoro Crater is truly an amazing place. Did you know it formed over two million years ago? A large volcano erupted, causing the volcano to collapse but leaving a perfectly intact crater known as a caldera. In this incredible crater, you can expect to see playful zebras, wading hippos, speedy wildebeests, and laughing hyenas. Additionally, there are graceful flamingos along the soda lake, while hungry hawks and vultures soar in the sky looking for their next meal from abandoned carcasses. Beautiful storks, ibises, and cranes are popular water birds in the crater, a sight not to be missed. After a delightful afternoon of animal watching, we will also visit a Maasai boma to learn more about the Maasai culture, seeing them dance and sing beautiful moral songs. You will also have the opportunity to practice some local activities with the Maasai families before returning to Karatu for accommodation.
